Our Story

The Four Letter Baker was built at home.

After a longstanding love affair with baking, Michaela discovered the joys of bright and bawdy buttercream during her second maternity leave.

What started as a creative outlet quickly became something more consistent - developing a style rooted in Lambeth piping, colour, and designs that feel personal. As the business grew, Michaela moved into Coffee at Number 10 in Thirsk, continuing to build from there while supplying cakes and cookies for their counter.

The focus has always been on cakes that feel like the person they’re for - whether that’s bold colour, nostalgic piping, or something a bit less expected.

The Four Letter Baker now operates from its own bakery and studio space as part of Serve Studio - a creative space designed to support small businesses and give creative work a proper home.

Michaela Says:

Cakes are definitely my love language, and I never get tired of seeing the utter joy a sexy little customized cake can bring. If you can stick a disco ball or a Barbie on it, then it’s a yes from me.

I love to create something different, a theme with a twist, and yes… as long as you are not being a dick to anyone, I really will write whatever you want on your cake.

So if this is your vibe and you are looking for something different… I’d love to hear from you.
